Nonlinear infrared spectroscopy free from spectral selection

Infrared (IR) spectroscopy is an indispensable tool for many practical applications including material analysis and sensing. Existing IR spectroscopy techniques face challenges related to the inferior performance and the high cost of IR-grade components. Here, we develop a new method, which allows studying properties of materials in the IR range using only visible light optics and detectors. It...

Improving resolution in single-scan 2D spectroscopy.

New schemes are introduced that allow one to improve the resolution in the indirect dimension of single-scan 'ultrafast' two-dimensional NMR spectra. The methods combine undersampling with band-selective pulses to recover signals that lie outside the detection bandwidth. The efficiency is illustrated for homonuclear total correlation spectroscopy (TOCSY) of quinidine.

Mid-infrared interferometry with high spectral resolution

The Infrared Spatial Interferometer (ISI) is a three telescope interferometer system that operates near 11 microns wavelength using heterodyne detection with CO2 lasers as local oscillators. Stellar measurements have been made using consistent instrumentation for 20 years, allowing comparisons of stellar sizes of red giant and Mira stars over time intervals which are long in comparison to stell...

Multi-spectral infrared spectroscopy for robust plastic identification.

The identification and classification of plastics plays an important role in waste management and recycling processes. Present electrical and optical sorting techniques lack the required resolution for accurate identification in a high throughput manner for a diverse set of plastics commonly found in municipal waste. In this work a multi-spectral infrared spectroscopic technique is employed to ...
